Artist Statement

I am a tactile person.  My expression of art focuses largely on the tactile creation of a piece.  Weaving – tying on threads and throwing a shuttle – creates a calming rhythm within me.  Making jewelry – picking up each bead and stringing or knotting it – settles me into my artistic center.  

Because weaving and jewelry creation is a sequential process – one thread or one bead at a time – I never truly know how a finished piece will look.   Threads cross each other, their textures and colors muting, brightening, or softening the final product.  Beads nestle next to each other, their colors and textures marrying into one another.

Most importantly, however, my products are created with a belief that the energy going into it is stronger and more beautiful than any design I create.  I pray, I sing, I speak poems into the pieces.  

I believe the heart-energy poured into the creation of necklaces, bracelets, and shawls enhances its beauty for the wearer.
